 Zooarchaeological analysis

Part of the Zooarchaeology laboratory, Department of Archaeology, University of Sheffield

Directed by Professor Umberto Albarella. Our experts undertake zooarchaeological analysis on behalf of many organisations. We are always keen to create closer links with archaeological units and other organisations involved in developer-funded archaeology. We would also be delighted to discuss potential collaborations with organisations who require zooarchaeological expertise.

We undertake analysis of animal bone assemblages from most periods (Upper Palaeolithic - Modern) in Britain and Europe. We maintain an extensive reference collection of faunal remains, and a substantial library of zooarchaeological literature.

Our team of experienced zooarchaeologists offers a range of expertise in:

• Mammal, bird and fish bones
• Microfauna
• Marine molluscs
• Crustaceans
• Insects
